Founded in 1980, Robert McNeel & Associates is a privately-held, employee-owned company that provides technical professionals with productive tools based on emerging technologies. Much of our new software development was focused on using AutoCAD drawings and related data in all business processes, including design, planning, marketing and maintenance. For the last few years our focus has also been on developing and publishing specialty Windows products for engineers, architectural and industrial designers, and related support staff.

Rhinoceros 3.0
Start with sketches, drawings, models, or any idea—Rhino provides the tools to accurately model your designs ready for rendering, animation, drafting, engineering, analysis, and manufacturing. Rhino needs only your imagination and an ordinary PC. Rhino can create, edit, analyze, and translate NURBS curves, surfaces, and solids in Windows. Rhino has limited support for polygon meshes. There are no limits on complexity, degree, or size.  Rhino also complements multimedia products including 3ds max, LightWave, and Softimage.

Flamingo
An easy to use plug-in that works seamlessly inside Rhino and provides a host of features that speed and simplify image rendering.  Create sophisticated single-frame images and animations with raytracing and radiosity. Raytracing provides unrivaled realism and accurate reflection, refraction, shadows and more.  The basic concept behind radiosity is to produce renderings by performing an accurate physics simulation of the bouncing of light around a scene and into the viewer’s eye.

Penguin
Penguin is a conceptual, sketch and cartoon, non-photometric scan line renderer. With Penguin you can create stylized images of your models with an artistic look for enhanced graphic and visual appeal.

What are NURBS?
   

NURBS, Non-Uniform

Rational B-Splines, are mathematical representations of 3-D geometry that can accurately describe any shape from a simple 2-D line, circle, arc, or curve to the most complex 3-D organic free-form surface or solid. Because of their flexibility and accuracy, NURBS models can be used in any process from illustration and animation to manufacturing.
